Hey, what are you doing here?
In September of 2002 I took up the sport in fencing at age 18. In May of 2005, I achieved my first international result. In June 2006, I was the first Irish Men’s Sabreur to compete in the European Championships. I moved to Paris in 2006 to access a higher level of training. In 7 years I represented my country in over 60 world cup events including European and World Championships. I achieved better results at international competition than any fencer born in Ireland. I tried against all odds to qualify for the Olympics in 2012… The odds were in fact correct. In June of 2012, 10 years after I began competing, I retired from fencing.
In the meantime… I became fluent in French. I became friends with people from all over the world. I travelled around the world. I worked full-time during the day while training all morning and evening. I met the woman who would become my wife and accomplice. I learned how much I took for granted was cultural. I helped found several companies. I learned to cook a decent omelette.
As a retiree… I combined my love of sport and my knowledge of marketing by completing and MBA through French in Marketing et Management du Sport. I moved to Switzerland for a job while completing the MBA. I learned that earplugs with the most important accessory if you were going to sleep in a hostel dorm. I ran to work via the lake, I ran home via the vineyards, I swam in lake Geneva while on lunch break. In 2014, I returned home to Ireland.
I became a coach to try and give back a little. I volunteered with some organisations and tried to help a little. I tried to bring what I learned from all that travel and all those important people to bare a little at work and at home.
